About The Riverside Project

The Riverside Project was originally founded and established in 2016 by Tania Davies and Peter Collins to showcase the benefits of managing the environment through the use of traditional countryside conservation skills and rural crafts.

A microcosm aiming to demonstrate how working alongside nature would allow wildlife and flora to thrive, whilst harvesting timber from the coppice and using other natural products to produce handmade items to sell to support the work of the project, alongside our small flock of rare breed Jacob’s sheep and Bella the Shetland pony.

Gain an insight into the world of Permaculture and Agro- forestry in these newly evolving times of environmental change where current agricultural practices are under scrutiny to change and evolve.

Visit The Riverside Project

Based on a 3.5 acre site in Brompton Regis on the banks of the River Pulham, the project is uniquely placed to offer a range of courses including Spoon Carving, Forest Bathing and Basket Weaving.

Add a weekend stay in the Off-Grid Wilderness Tent; to get an insight first-hand about Permaculture, Agro-forestry and Coppice management with some hands-on experience. You can improve your Health and Wellbeing with a walk in the company of Bella the Shetland Pony, or just enjoy the surroundings.

The project site is also open to day visitors by appointment. To come and understand first-hand about coppice management, permaculture, agro forestry, and the benefits of traditional hedge laying compared to flailed hedges. See the impact good and bad practice has on the environment surrounding us.

Pete discusses the grant recently received from the Heritage Lottery with BBC Radio Somerset

With the way we now look at the environment a visit to The Riverside Project is a great way for all age groups to engage, explore and see what the environment means to us all, as we are after all just custodians for the time we walk the Earth.

“It is the legacy that we leave behind, that we will be judged and remembered for by future generations.”

Pete & Tania look forward to welcoming you.

Sponsors

The Riverside Project wouldn't be where it is today without the generous help and support of its sponsors.

Thanks to Phil & Louise Hutton and Paul & Jane Mehrer for the superb shelter canopies.

Phil and Paul became great friends with Pete and Tania after meeting at The Festival of the Tree at Westonbirt Arboretum.

Sadly Phil and Paul have since both passed away but their legacy lives on in their generous contributions to the project.
